Captivating Not Captive

 

 

Play is at work all the time in beauty. Play and beauty are both spontaneous, and that instant truthfulness captivates our fantasies and our willingness to be those fantasies. Playing obscures the cut in reality between what may be both real and not real. In fashion photography we take our fantasies for real, we make believe because the resemblance to our fantasy obscures our reality-testing. The impulse to obscure that which touches us but is incomprehensible – the fullness of life that effects us – is a perpetual obstacle. Captivating Not Captive intervenes to return one towards courage.
